This is Hesdin’s most intimate hideaway — a two-bedroom sanctuary with an XL stainless-steel hot tub, panoramic sauna, cold plunge, and more spa energy than half the hotels in London. It’s perfect for: small families, mini escapes, or anyone who loves their extended clan… but also loves closing the door on them at the end of the night.
As a standalone stay, it’s a private little fortress. As an add-on to a larger Hesdin booking, it’s the Strategic Sanctuary Wing — ideal for grandparents, early sleepers, introverts, or anyone who audibly sighs with relief when handed their own key. The Wealthy Merchant carries the spirit of our Original Host Arnulf de Hesdin- a little rogue, very indulgent, unapologetically comfortable.

The Wealthy Merchant is our answer to the request for "Hesdin Scale" on an intimate level. We haven't diluted the experience just because there are fewer of you—we’ve simply concentrated it. With an XL stainless steel hot tub, panoramic sauna, and cold plunge that rival our biggest houses, this is a fortress of relaxation for just four souls ( or 8 if you add the mez floor beds). Whether you book it as a standalone escape for your tightest crew, or secure it as a strategic "Sanctuary Wing" to recharge during a larger clan takeover, this is where you catch your breath so you can return to the party ready to love your family all over again.

The Wealthy Merchant Overview
- The Wealthy Merchant is located on the East Entrance of The Hesdin Estate, Chapmanslade, Wiltshire.
- There’s a standard capacity of 4 in 2 large ensuite rooms, but can sleep up to 8 if the additional mez floor beds are added. These have a steep ladder for access- might not be suitable for little ones but are lots of fun.
- Minimum Stay - 3 nights.
- Monday or Friday check in days.
- Average cost for a midweek stay in Hesdin Hall is £1500, weekend is £1800.
- The Wealthy Merchant is ideal for mini getaways, romantic trips, small family gatherings.
- Up to 2 dogs allowed ( additional charge)
- The Wealthy Merchant is not recommended for anyone that requires an accessible friendly house as the en-suites aren’t wet rooms
